CHAIRMANS UPDATE

A good night was had by all at the Millhouse on Friday evening for our annual meal out. Entertainment was provided by Tony Whiteman who gave us his rendition of breaking the 4 minute mile barrier last year-the only over 40 athlete to ever achieve this feat outdoors !! As you can imagine many of the questions afterwards focused on what we can do to try to improve our performances, and I think the message was, a slice of genetic good fortune and a big wedge of hardwork and perseverance. Many thanks once again to Karen Hames for organising the event and making sure that Charlie got his tea!!

I will re-schedule the off-road duathlon for Sunday 24th February-9am start so please try and pencil this into your diaries. Dates for the summer duathlon series will be posted soon along with details of a new course starting around Rothwell-if I can get approval from the police and the support from the publican at the Rothwell Arms.

I competed in the Tigger Tor fell race in the Peak District and finished a creditable 4th. I can honestly say that it was tremendous fun and something you should all try during the closed season to add some variation to your training. The fell runners association website is a good source of reference for these type of races throughout the year. If any of you have any results from races or doing something extraordinary then please keep us updated.
One race for your diaries is March 3rd-Barton and District athletics club are doing a cross-country race-find details/entry form on their web-site. The Clumber Park Duathlon is another good event in early March and well worth entering it is organised by onestepbeyond and usually fields a strong line up with it being a European qualifier but don’t let that put you off.  Roll on the spring!!

Best wishes

A quick reminder about various things/events:

Subscriptions are now overdue. Payment can be made at club duathlons or payment via cheque made out to ‘Grimsby Tri Club’ and sent to Gary’s home address: 13 Park Drive, Grimsby, DN32 0EF

There has been a proposal by Karen Hames to purchase a gazebo with the club’s name/logo inscribed on it for members to use at events and duathlons to keep kit dry, act as a central location and help to promote the club. The estimated cost is £600. If any member has any other suggestions or objections then let Gary T know by email.
