Winter XC Duathlon

Well done to all those who braved an early December start for the first Winter XC Duathlon at Louth Athletics Club.

Thanks to Matt C who marked up a challenging course for the 3k run/4k bike/3k run which was energy-sapping to say the least.

Grimsby Tri Club's Winter XC Duathlon

Respect also to Ady who tackled the 10k XC run (after biking over from Grimsby) – hope the headwind back dropped a little.

There was no official time-keeper for the event but let’s just say that, unsurprisingly, Gary T managed to lap the field on the final run.

A big thanks to Karen and Tracey who organised bacon rolls and hot drinks, it was much appreciated by all!

And finally, we’d like to thank Louth Athletics Club for the use of their excellent facilities. Hopefully we can make a return visit in the New Year.

Results Archive

Thanks to Doc C I’ve been able to update the website with an archive of old results dating back to 2009.

These can be found via the new Results Archives page (also, when you hover over the Results Menu tab you’ll see an option for the archive).

This year’s results have also been archived in anticipation of your new PB’s in 2013.

Doc C has also promised a huge download of old photos so stand by for some black-and-white-stripes action.

Club Records

Having the old results has enabled me to work out some “all time” records for the Duathlon course, so here’s your targets for next year:

Date Run Bike Run Name Time
8th April 2010 1m 10m 1m Gary T 00:40:18
28th May 2009 1m 14m 1m Gary T 00:46:53
19th May 2011 2m 10m 2m Gary T 00:50:22
28th June 2012 2m 14m 2m Gary T 01:05:40

If anyone has any earlier time-sheets from before 2009, please let me know.

* Correction – originally posted with Shaun R holding the 1/14/1 slot but I went over the figures and Gary T has a clean sweep! Sorry Shaun.

Subscriptions are now overdue. Payment can be made at club duathlons or payment via cheque made out to ‘Grimsby Tri Club’ and sent to Gary’s home address: 13 Park Drive, Grimsby, DN32 0EF

There has been a proposal by Karen Hames to purchase a gazebo with the club’s name/logo inscribed on it for members to use at events and duathlons to keep kit dry, act as a central location and help to promote the club. The estimated cost is £600. If any member has any other suggestions or objections then let Gary T know by email.

Open Water Swimming

Gary M has made great progress in possibly getting us all access to open water swimming at Covenham reservoir.  The water-skiing, diving and yacht club seem to be happy for us to fit in around the times they use the water, so the initial outlook is positive.  Our wishes are currently being pursued by a member of the water sports association who is going to approach Anglian Water to hopefully get the green light.  What we need to do now is to gather the level of interest from club members, so please consider whether you would look to use this venue.  The site has showers & changing facilities; a track running around the perimeter, and ample parking, so would be a great location to add to the dock swims available through the Water Rats. The facilities at Covenham could make for a great Aquathlon venue to add to the existing Duathlon events.  Obviously, the more members that come forward with interest the more this will strengthen our case.  Interested? Then please email Gary Martin ASAP at gary.martin@fcross.co.uk or give him a ring on 07748202591

Chairman’s Update

A quick update on some recent developments for the new season.

I would like to thank Karen Hames for her organisation of the social get together at the Millhouse last Friday night.  Everyone had a great time with like minded people.  I have put together some provisional dates for the duathlon events from the Clickem Inn and these will be posted soon.  I have also proposed a new league points system so please take a look and see what you think – any feedback is most welcome. The league will culminate with an awards/presentation evening sometime in November. We are currently in the process of changing the mandate for the Tri club bank account. Subs are due on the first duathlon of the season – 5th April.  A form will be put here on the website for you to complete and submit with your payment to Sarah Cook so we can keep a tighter check on who has paid.  Dave Plunkett is quartermaster so any requests for Tri kit for the season need to be made directly to him-his e-mail is david.quantumleap@tiscali.co.uk

Shaun Robinson is proposing a trip to the Manchester velodrome so if you want further details about possible dates and costs contact him shaunr@blackrow.co.uk

If any of you need to make contact with anyone then please write a message as a comment here on the site and it will be uploaded onto the main site and e-mailed to those subscribed – keeping up communications is important so please let us know about any stories/results/planned training so that everyone is informed

Finally good luck to those competing in Lanzarote and commiserations to the rest of us trying to stay warm!

Weekly Update

A Happy New Year to all club members.  Here is a quick round up of recent events which some of us have been involved in.  The Cleethorpes 10k held on New Years day had a good showing from the club.  All results and photos can be seen on the Wolds Vets web site: Paul Thompson 39.25 Shaun Robinson 45.13 Vicky Thomas 46.00 Georgie Young 46.57 Alan Cook 50.25

Several members had an enjoyable MTB ride last Saturday from Tealby in very mild weather conditions. The highlight of the ride was Shaun Robinson’s descent down a steep grassy track near Walesby – how he managed to hold onto his trusty steed was a miracle! And let’s not mention punctures…… Watch this space for another planned MTB ride in January from the Louth area.

Now that the race session is only just round the corner if you’re going to do any duathlons, and only a few months away for triathlons, Doug Eke is running Saturday swim sessions at Louth Meridian Leisure Centre, 3 – 4pm at £5 per session and Saturday turbo sessions at Louth Meridian Leisure Centre,  5 – 6pm at £5 or £6.50 if you need to hire a turbo trainer. Give Doug a ring on 07943 102739 if you have any questions.

Enjoy the winter training everyone, wherever you are.

Happy New Year

After the most succesful year in our club’s history, here’s wishing everyone an even better 2012. Whether you’re new to the sport; an age grouper looking to up their game; or a reigning World Champion starting the defence of their title – good luck in hitting your goals for 2012. I’m sure everyone will be inspired by the arrival of the Olympic flame to get out there and smash it!
