Chaiman’s update

A big thankyou to all members who turned out for the AGM last Friday. The minutes of the meeting will be posted on the website this weekend to keep everyone informed of what was agreed.

Thank you to everyone who has sent photographs and content to Matt for the new website which we hope will make communication amongst members much easier. The proper website address of has now been mapped to the new site, which is much easier to remember and matches what’s printed on our racing suits!

If anyone fancies an offroad mountain bike session tomorrow, Sunday 13th November, then a couple of us are meeting at 9am for a couple of hours ride out from 13 Park drive Grimsby. The plan is to do a recce around Rothwell and to find some possible duathlon routes.  Please let me know via e-mail ASAP if you plan to join us.  Hopefully this will lead to some proposed dates for a winter duathlon series, so please indicate your interest if you are likely to wish to compete.

Enjoy the weekend everyone, whether you’re racing, training, or just relaxing.

Best wishes, Gary T

    3) Chairman’s remarks-Iain Chalmers addressed members with his personal reasons for resigning his post as chairman. He felt it an opportune moment to relinquish control which he has held since the club’s inception 7 years ago. He commented on the healthy membership and sound financial base that now exists and praised the achievements of various members-notably Karen Hames, Georgie Young and Paul Thompson who have achieved representative honours and world championship status! No mean feat for such a small club!! Gary Thomas offered thanks to Iain on behalf of the club for his dedication and efforts behind the scenes over the years.

    4) Election of club officers took place-Chairman-Gary Thomas, Treasurer-Sarah Cook, Welfare/Junior-Paul Thompson, Quartermaster-Dave Plunkitt (volunteered his services at end of meeting and was duly elected by the chairman!!)

    5) Financial report-treasurer-Chris Rogers-a detailed report will be sent electronically to members at the close of play for this year detailing revenues and expenditures. Financially the club is sound with a healthy balance of c.£1,840.00. Memberships for next season will be set at £15 and be due on the first duathlon race in April (date to be confirmed). Chris suggested spending some of the money to benefit members-Gary T suggested giving everyone a Grimsby tri towel on renewal of their membership-this was well received. Chris R was currently sourcing some 2 way radios for purchase c.£150 to be used by the marshalls during the duathlon events. It was agreed via a majority vote to not renew our subscription with Grimsby Yacht Club and offer open water swim sessions. Gary T felt it was too risky due to retirement of Doc C and having no medical cover. Alan C suggested organising a couple of trips to Lincoln to organised open water swim sessions which are held on Saturday mornings.

    6) Web-site-Gary T passed on his thanks to Mike Pickwell on behalf of the club who has managed the web-site over the last few years but had decided to pass this responsibility on. Matt Clark volunteered his services to establish a new site using the word press system which allows more flexibility for members to subscribe to a forum and upload their own results/pictures/messages.

    7) Events-Gary T suggested some off-road duathlon events over the winter season. Routes from Kenwick Park, Louth (organised by Nick Bailey ) and Blacksmith’s Arms at Rothwell are potential venues offering access to changing/refreshments etc… proposed dates and times to follow-posted on web-site.

    8) Group training events-run training with athlete Tony Whiteman has proved popular with members paying for an 8 week block of training £15 meeting on a Thursday evening at 7pm, at various locations around Grimsby-further details can be gained by contacting the new web-site.

A social bike ride (road) currently leaves tesco’s roundabout on a Saturday morning -8am and Gary T proposed a social/group run through the winter with an update on venue and time if members show interest in this. Carl G asked about Sunday morning rides due to work commitments-Gary T suggested posting interest using the new web-site to organise this.

    9) Junior section-Gary T raised the issue of the club dealing with juniors who are joining / representing the club. It was agreed at this stage to not have an official junior section due to the complexities of CRB checks and child protection issues/liability. The club will continue with the current policy of only allowing juniors to attend club events if accompanied by a legal parent/responsible adult. Gary T is to meet with Rebecca Rowley-the regional BTA officer for Notts, Lincs and Derby to seek some further advice on this issue and firm up the junior officer’s role and responsibilities.

    10) AOB-Shaun Robinson proposed a return visit to Manchester velodrome-possible dates will be posted in the future.

Karen Hames-read out the information sent from Rebecca Rowley who has funded herself and Tracey Brown in gaining their level 2 BTA coaching award-due to be completed by next March. In return they will be putting on some structured bike/swim/run sessions for current members based at the Meridian Centre, Louth. Gary T stated that details on this should be forwarded to himself and then advertised to the members as and when.

Anthony Ogden promoted a free service offered by bodyfitsportscience to test up to 20 triathletes using sweat tests. Registration of interest and further details to be sent via Tony via e-mail/web-site.

Gary T proposed that all members should submit a sheet detailing emergency contact details prior to racing in club events in the event of an incident.

Tim Moss brought up the issue of changing the mandate for the club account due to the retirement of Doc C. Gary T will liase with new treasurer-Sarah Cook to change signatories as soon as possible so that payments for BTA registration/new web-site can be made accordingly.
